An Introduction to Field Recording & Sound Production is a short-course for anyone, from any discipline, who is interested in acquiring fundamental theory and skills for working with sound, especially when recording outside of a controlled studio environment. Whilst there are many overlaps, field recording often requires an inventive approach and can pose several unique challenges.
Whatever your background and discipline, this course will allow you to:
- carve out dedicated time for learning new skills
- experiment with simple but quality recording equipment
- discover how you can expand your creativity by working with recorded sound
Created and hosted by Jon Tipler, this course has been developed for those new to working with sound and attempts to demystify the technologies and workflows associated with digital audio production, giving you the confidence to dive straight in!

TESTIMONIALS:
“Being taken through each stage of the basics in the field recording process was exactly what I hoped for. There was a lot of new information but it covered everything necessary for someone new to the theory and was delivered really well.”
“I found the theory and information on how to use the equipment most valuable. Teaching of the theory was well structured which made it easier to understand and relate it to the practical recording.”

“It exceeded my expectations!”
“I just felt like it was a great way to spend 2 days. I felt your content, your presentation, your knowledge and your approach with us was perfect, and the personalised touches (the refreshments and the books, pens etc) felt really special. All info was given to us really clearly, and I had in my head what I wanted to get out of it. It also helps that you have a real passion in sound and this was super inspiring not just to me but I know others on the course.”
